2005 saw the beginning of one of the most exciting projects that the Churches of Heald Green have been involved in. The potential is huge.

After months of preparation, plans for an internet café came to fruition, and on Tuesday 12th July CAFÉ UNITY was opened by the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor and Mrs Peter Burns.

Start up costs were considerable - and these have been largely met by donations from local churches (and wider church denominations), charitable trusts, companies and from individual members of local church congregations.

The café provides a much needed point of contact, and a safe and convenient venue for people of all ages to relax, unwind, find refreshment, and connect with friends.

Older members of the community can find companionship and take a breather. Those with young children can meet and relax, while their children can play safely in the facilities provided. Young people can come in after school and surf the net safely, as the computers have controls fitted to prevent access to offensive and dangerous websites.

Any profits or trading surpluses we make are ploughed back into our work with young people in Heald Green.

Our products are as far as possible fairly traded, to support hard pressed producers in the developing world.
